Liv Hornekær elected as member of The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters

Congratulations to Professor Liv Hornekær and all the other 15 outstanding scientists who have been elected as new members of The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters. They will enter into a year-long tradition, and follow in the footsteps of famous former members such as Niels Bohr and H.C. Ørsted, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein and Charles Darwin.

The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters has admitted Professor Liv Hornekær from the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) as a new member. The Academy works to strengthen the position of science in Denmark and to promote interdisciplinary understanding. It serves as a collaborative body and meeting place for prominent researchers from all areas of basic scientific research from across the country.

All of the new members has a background in natural science, however, they represent a broad landscape of scientific fields in everything from genetics and biochemistry to astrochemistry and nanoscience and on to electrical engineering and bacteriology.

Liv Hornekær received the Eliteforsk award in 2016 and in 2017 she was appointed Professor of Physics at Aarhus University, as the first woman ever.

In her research, Hornekær focuses on understanding and controlling the electronic and chemical properties of carbonaceous surfaces at the atomic level and to use this understanding for the development of new materials for electronics, anti-corrosive coatings and models for interstellar chemistry.
