I hold an MD and a DMSc from Aarhus University and a Graduate Diploma in management (BA), Aarhus School of Business. As a professor, my group conducts translational and clinical tissue research in neuroscience with an interest in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases.
We research cells, transgenic animals, autopsy brains, and biopsies using quantitative microscopy, including advanced fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy. We combine this with spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, qPCR, Western blotting, microelectrode arrays, and behavioural tests. My research enhances the understanding of brain disease mechanisms, pinpointing where pathology originates to identify molecular signatures for better diagnosis and treatment.
I teach "Data Optimization and Graphical Presentation of Data" at the master's level and "Pathology" at the bachelor's level for medical students. I also teach "Neurobiology", "Basic Neuroscience", and "Advanced Neuroscience" to biology master's students. Globally, I have taught over 100 postgraduate courses in quantitative microscopy (stereology). My teaching includes lectures, group classroom exercises, and laboratory practicals.
My primary area of responsibility is leader of the laboratory “Core Center for Molecular Morphology” with primary responsibility for research, education, and financial management. I strive to create a research-driven international environment that promotes career growth and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration with national and international partners in academia and industry.
