Research

I am Professor at the Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University. My research focuses on innate immunity, particularly the complement system and its role in health and disease. I have a background in biochemistry and experimental biology and extensive experience in molecular immunology, protein biochemistry and translational research.

Teaching activities

I teach immunology to medical students and responsible conduct of reasearch at  PhD courses. I have supervised MSc, medical and PhD students for more than 30 years. My teaching has emphasised understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of the immune system and their relevance to infection, inflammation, immunodeficiency and immune-mediated disease.

Collaborations

I collaborate with basic scientists, clinicians, and biotechnology researchers in Denmark and internationally within complement biology, innate immunity, and translational immunology. The collaborations combine mechanistic research with clinical studies and the development of biomarkers and therapeutic concepts to translate basic immunology into improved diagnosis and treatment.

Consultancy

I contribute to scientific advisory work, peer review and assessment of research, grant applications and academic qualifications. I serve as Adviser on Responsible Conduct of Research and Freedom of Research at Aarhus University and have held positions in national and international immunology organisations, scientific boards and editorial activities.
