Professor Appointment: Ebbe Sloth Andersen

Congratulations to Ebbe Sloth Andersen, who has been appointed Professor of Experimental Bionanoscience at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University. The appointment is effective 1 October 2025. An inaugural lecture will be held on 14 November 2025, and registration is open.

Ebbe Sloth Andersen leads research at the interface of biotechnology and nanotechnology. His group investigates how biomolecules fold into functional 3D shapes and uses these principles to design novel nanoscale devices—work that includes pioneering contributions within RNA/DNA “origami” and demonstrations of applications in synthetic biology and medicine.

Ebbe completed his PhD at Aarhus University, and has since built a strong profile in interdisciplinary nanoscience through collaborations across chemistry, molecular biology and biophysics. He has contributed to advances in RNA/DNA “origami”, structural analysis of complex RNA, and the development of programmable biomolecular systems.

His research achievements have been recognised both nationally and internationally, e.g., the Danish Polymer Prize (ATV Elastyrenprisen) for pioneering biopolymer research by develping the RNA origami method, and two prestegious research grants from the European Research Council - a consolidator grant in 2016 and an advanced grant in 2025.

In his new role as professor at iNANO, Aarhus University, Ebbe will continue his research, teaching and supervision activities and engage in cross-departmental collaborations that support AU’s nanoscience education and research environment. He looks forward to working with students and colleagues to develop new ideas and methods for exploring science and innovation at the nanoscale.
