Nano Energy Materials (Torben René Jensen)

Energy materials research

Through the years, this research group has discovered and characterized hundreds of new inorganic materials and nano composites. There has been an intense focus on structural characterization and investigation of special properties. In the last couple of years, the research group has mainly focused on developing new materials for use in all solid-state magnesium and calcium batteries. These new materials have the highest ionic conductivities observed at moderate temperatures. The group has presented new types of all solid-state lithium and magnesium batteries and has made great progress towards a moderate temperature calcium-based battery.

Research activities in the group include:

  • All solid-state batteries: new electrolyte materials
  • Porous materials: gas storage and separation
  • Nanoconfined chemistry: reactions, hydrides, composites
  • New synthesis strategies: mechanochemistry (green chemistry), solvent-based methods, solid stage reactions, etc.
  • Utilization of synchrotron X-rays and neutrons at large facilities, e.g. new techniques for advanced in-situ experiments
  • Synthesis and characterization of novel hydrides, gas/solid reactions, structural chemistry, thermal transformations
