SIMPSON

SIMPSON is a general-purpose software package for simulation of all kinds of NMR and DNP experiments. Setup the spin system and pulse sequence, and you have the result. Think of it as a virtual NMR spectrometer.

SIMPSON version 6 released

June 2026

We are happy to announce the release of SIMPSON version 6, a completely rewritten version of SIMPSON with numerous new features including

  • Extension to DNP including electron spins, a new DNPframe for mixed electron-nuclear resonance
  • Propagator splitting for avoiding calculation of repeated matrix exponentials
  • Simple setup for simulation of pulse transients and other hardware distortions
  • Expanded optimal control simulations through gradient-free optimization and phase-only optimization
  • Second-order cross terms, e.g. between quadrupolar and dipolar interactions
  • Support for MAS-modulated RF/MW inhomogeneity
  • Completely rewritten in C++ for better performance, easier extensibility, and simpler structure.
