The honorary doctorate is given to prominent academics and is conferred on Professor Jan Skov Pedersen for the high quality of his research within materials science specifically related to research on molecular processes and structure formation on the nanoscale in time scales down to a millisecond. Prof. Pedersen’s contributions, in particular the developments of experimental techniques employing X-ray and neutron small-angle scattering, give us a window into understanding complex chemical reactions and biomolecular processes. His research includes studies of polymers, enzymes, drugs and protein assemblies related to diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

The honorary doctorate was conferred to Prof. Pedersen in 2020. However, the ceremony has been postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the honorary doctorates of 2020 will officially be appointed today at the University of Oslo’s Annual Celebration.

Congratulations to Professor Jan Skov Pedersen.
