As the creator and Managing Director of the BioMedical Design Novo Nordisk Foundation Fellowship Programme at Aarhus University, I lead initiatives aimed at transforming healthcare through needs-driven innovation. Our fellowship trains professionals to identify critical healthcare challenges and develop impactful solutions. Through hands-on fieldwork and collaboration with Danish hospitals, our goal is to develop solutions that directly address patient and healthcare provider needs.
In research collaboration with fulltime researchers I study the educational effects of the BioMedical Design innovation model on cretive self-efficacy, entrepreneurial mindset, the influence of networks on innovation level and team development.
Earlier, I did research in nanomedicine focusing on siRNA, drug delivery from nanoparticles, gene therapy, and transgenic mice. Utilizing interdisciplinary research methods, my goal was to develop novel healthcare solutions that improve patient outcomes.
I teach broadly in health innovation, primarily using a needs-driven approach inspired by Design Thinking, but adapted to the unique context and complexity of healthcare systems. As part of the BioMedical Design Fellowship, I also undertake teaching in the understanding of legal agreements such as collaboration agreements, ownership agreements, and confidentiality agreements. Additionally, I cover funding strategy, business model design, and market access understanding.
I collaborate with the Danish Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy on the educational effects of the BioMedical Design program. We are focused on whether we increase creative self-efficacy (belief in one's own ability to create innovation) and an entrepreneurial mindset, particularly among academics and healthcare professionals.
I work with the Danish regions and hospitals to create good conditions for BioMedical Design Fellows to take temporary residence in the clinical environment with the aim of identifying and qualifying innovation opportunities.
I assist the Innovation Fund Denmark with the evaluation of applications for the entrepreneur program, Innofounder.
This means that each year I read and qualify approximately 48 applications and recommend them to proceed to the pitch stage.
My primary responsibilities include overseeing the BioMedical Design Novo Nordisk Foundation Fellowship Programme, recruiting diverse cohorts of professionals such as doctors, nurses, engineers, and business experts, and strengthening strategic clinical areas, such as digital health. I lead a team of 6 full-time employees and 16 annual innovation fellows across of Denmark, along with an annual budget of 2.3 million Euro. I'm representing Department of Clinical Medicine as Entrepreneurship ambassador in the Industrial Corporation Committee at Health Faculty.
