The Science of Ecco

Never before have the needs for faster innovation and product developments been more sought for. Never before have the frequency of disruptive technologies and groundbreaking concepts been higher. Never before have the needs for sustainability and corporate social responsibility been greater.

Today’s consumer is very different and much more enlightened than in the past. Nowadays people does not only expect a high performing and good-looking product, but care to a much larger extend about how, of what, when and by which means it has been produced, packed and transported.

These aspects put a lot of pressure on today’s manufacturers of consumer products, but also open a world of business opportunities.

However, that calls for people with different skillsets going in the direction of higher educated and more competent employees. Scientists and engineers from a wide range of disciplines are slowly but steadfast moving into consumer product manufacturing and not only constricting themselves to traditional B2B.

ECCO and a number of other Danish companies are in the frontline facing such challenges on an everyday basis, fighting to keep Denmark on a healthy track. In order to keep a leading position it is of paramount importance to ensure the right in-flow of the right competences at any given time.

Today’s talk will introduce you to how science is fused with the craftsmanship of making shoes.

Host: Professor Troels Skrydstrup, iNANO, CADIAC & Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University
