Portrait of Jane Nguyen. Private photo.

Jane has been a part of the Gothelf lab from Spring 2014 to Spring 2020. She started as a bachelor student focusing on the synthesis of aptamer-binding fluorophores for use in the BIOMOD 2014 competition. The studies were continued in the Beauchemin group at University of Ottawa, Canada, where she dealt with the synthesis of new thiourea-based organocatalysts before returning to the Gothelf lab as a project student working with the synthesis of carbonyl derivatives for PAINT. Jane then started her PhD studies in 2015, which focused on the artificial nucleic acid called acyclic (L)-threoninol nucleic acid and has since then worked in the interface between organic chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry and molecular biology. She was awarded her PhD in 2020.
