I am a PhD student with a broad interest in the pathogenesis of immune-related diseases. My current research focuses on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and steatohepatitis (MASH), with particular emphasis on molecular changes in the hepatic microvasculature. I investigate how junctional proteins and aquaporins in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) are altered during disease progression, and how these changes may affect endothelial barrier function.
Methodologically, my work primarily involves tissue staining, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence on rat and human liver samples, as well as in vitro cell models.
I hold a background in molecular medicine, and my previous research has included the development of diagnostic tests for tuberculosis and malaria, as well as the characterisation of alternative functions of human antibodies.
My primary area of responsibility is experimental liver research, where I work with disease models for MASLD/MASH and molecular characterization of the liver's microvasculature. This includes, among other things, the analysis of junctional proteins and aquaporins in the liver's sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs). I employ immunohistochemical techniques and microscopic image analysis, as well as conduct cell-based experiments.
