The AXIA core team consists of a strong interdisciplinary combination of Aarhus-based researchers that are recognized world-wide for their research in bone and various musculoskeletal diseases.
Henrik Birkedal is professor and leader of the research group Biological and Bioinspired Materials at iNANO and Dept. of Chemistry at Aarhus University. He is a materials chemist working on understanding fundamentals of bone structure in health and disease as well as on bioinspired materials design. He is further an expert on X-ray imaging, also at synchrotrons.
Jesper Skovhus Thomsen is associate professor at Dept. of Biomedicine at Aarhus University. From a starting point in engineering, he has established himself as the leading Danish expert on bone mechanics and laboratory micro computed tomography.
Bente Lomholt Langdahl is professor at Dept. of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and leader of the osteoporosis clinic at Aarhus University hospital. She is an expert in osteoporosis and osteogenesis imperfecta.
Lars Rejnmark is professor in Dept. of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University. He is an expert on bone diseases such as hypo- and hyperparathyroidism and crosslinked hyperphosphatemia.
Annemarie Brüel is professor in Dept. of Biomedicine at Aarhus University. She is an expert in animal experimentation and the use of animal models to study bone diseases.
Ellen Margrethe Hauge is professor in Dept. of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University. She is an expert in inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis.
